![]() | Music+Arts Sponsors "Wrecking Crew" Screening in Memphis Posted July 17, 2009 We at Music + Arts studio are proud to announce that, in conjunction with The Recording Academy, we are helping to bring Denny Tedesco's brilliant documentary The Wrecking Crew to Studio on the Square for a one-time screening on Wednesday, July 29. The film captures the legendary LA studio musicians in their element, where they played on countless hits for The Beach Boys, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, The Mamas and the Papas, as well as serving as Phil Spector's infamous Wall of Sound, among others. At a time when most recording only took place in Detroit, New York, or London, the Wrecking Crew were the first group to make serious recording on the west coast a reality. In fact, a producer would get the guys in and lay down some instrumental tracks. If it became a hit, they would record an album and put a group together to go on the road. This happened many times with groups like the Marketts, Routers, and T-Bones. The next day they would do the same thing. Same musicians, but different group name. Check out the trailer at the official Wrecking Crew film site here. After the film, there will be a Q&A with director Denny Tedesco and Wrecking Crew member Joe Osborne. The screening will be free to all Recording Academy members, but space is limited, so reserve your seat asap at Memphis@Grammy.com or by phone at (901) 525-1340. |
